Sony TV Production "Pehredaar Piya Ki" Faces Flak, Pushed to 10 PM Slot!

Finally, the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council has ordered Sony Television to move its show "Pehredaar Piya Ki" to a late night slot. Ever since its first appearance, the show has constantly been bombarded with negative reviews and has been criticized by many due to its controversial plot. Sony has now been directed to push the show's timings besides running it with a scroll stating that it does not promote the concept of child marriage.

The story deals with the marriage of an 18-year-old girl to a 9-year-old boy. An online petition to ban the show was also signed, stating that the show is encouraging "obnoxious and perverted" content that can "severely impact impressionable minds of children".

The producers held a press conference earlier this week in Mumbai in defence of the show against its critics. The makers appear desperate to shield it, requesting viewers "to understand the circumstances in which the girl has to marry the child".

On Wednesday, a BCCC official commented the following on the issue, "We had a monthly meeting and the channel officials were called for a discussion, which went on for quite long. After everything, they were directed that the timing of the show should be shifted to a late night slot of 10 p.m. and that they must run a disclaimer. They will have to comply."

An interesting take on the matter is the stand taken by young actor Afaan Khan's father. When asked about all the controversy surrounding his son's show, he said, "It's okay. We knew about the script in detail. It's not that something happened at the spur of the moment."

He further added, "Plus, let me tell you that the story is soon going to take you into a different space soon, it's going to change drastically. I don't think we should read too much into Pehredaar Piya Ki. It is just a show and my son Afaan is only acting in it. In fact, many people are praising him that he looks cute and he's doing well."

This comes out as shocking to many since the show has even being shunned by a lot of TV actors as well. When asked about How these comments may affect his son, he said, "I cannot comment on that, but I am simply looking at Afaan's future. Pehredaar Piya Ki is giving him film offers. I just got a call from a film production house and I am sorry that I can't reveal the producer's name. "

Since the last BCCC meeting, the body has already received more than 138 fresh complaints against "Pehredaar Piya Ki". The show which is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions and went on air last month is in deep waters and in spite of what anyone thinks, it is expected to lose a big chunk of viewers due to the time shift.
